The Grant Writing Companion
140 copy-paste AI prompts for fundraisers and researchers — funder fit, logic models, budget narratives and indirect cost, case for support, reporting, and the rejection you can learn from.
Key Capabilities & Features:
- •The Funding Primer: paste your organisation, programme, budget and target funders once — every prompt after it writes for those specific funders
- •A budget narrative section that treats indirect cost as something to justify and recover rather than hide, which is where small organisations quietly lose money
- •Logic models built from the programme you actually run, not reverse-engineered to fill a form — reviewers can tell the difference and it is the fastest way to lose credibility
- •A go / no-go section, because the most valuable output is often the decision not to spend three weeks on an application you were never eligible for
- •140 prompts across 8 sections — funder fit & go / no-go, logic models & theory of change, need & evidence, case for support and more
- •Works with ChatGPT (GPT-5), Claude Opus 5 and Gemini 3.7 Flash — fill the bracket, paste, done
Bought separately these come to $48. The full toolkit is $46.

Architecture & System Overview
Grant applications are not usually rejected for being badly written. They are rejected because the budget contradicts the narrative, the outcomes cannot be evidenced, or the applicant was never eligible and nobody checked.
The Grant Writing Companion is a 140-prompt playbook covering funder fit and go / no-go, logic models and theory of change, need and evidence, case for support, budgets and budget narrative, outcomes and measurement, reporting and relationships, and rejection and resubmission.
Start with the Funding Primer — paste in your organisation, the programme, your budget and the funders you are targeting — and every prompt after it writes for those specific funders rather than a generic panel.
The budget narrative section treats overhead as something to justify and recover. Small organisations routinely under-claim indirect cost because it feels awkward to ask a funder to pay for the finance officer and the rent, and then deliver funded work at a loss for three years. The prompts help you state what the work genuinely costs and explain why.
Logic models are built from the programme you run rather than reverse-engineered from the form. A reviewer who assesses these for a living can tell within a paragraph which one they are reading, and the reverse-engineered version undermines everything after it.
And there is a go / no-go section, because the highest-value output of this toolkit is sometimes the decision not to spend three weeks on an application where a single eligibility line already excludes you.
Note: funder requirements, cost-recovery rules and eligibility criteria vary enormously by funder and country. Every prompt is instructed to work from the guidelines you paste in rather than from assumptions about how funders behave.

The contradiction cross-check
It found participant numbers that differed between my budget and my narrative, and a timeline the budget could not fund. Both were mine, both were invisible to me, and either would have cost us the application.
We had been absorbing our overhead for years
The apportionment paragraph gave us language we were not embarrassed to use. Two funders have since funded it without comment. That is a finance officer's salary we were previously eating.
It told me not to apply
Pasted the guidelines and it flagged an eligibility line about incorporation date that ruled us out entirely. Three weeks saved on the first day of using it.
You must paste the guidelines
It genuinely will not guess what a funder wants, which is right but means every application starts with copying documents in. Less convenient than I hoped, and probably the reason the output is trustworthy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it write my application for me?
It drafts from what you give it and interrogates what you have not. The most useful prompts are the ones that find problems — an outcome you cannot evidence, a budget that contradicts the narrative, an eligibility line you missed. A funder reads a lot of applications and can recognise one written without a real programme underneath it.
Which funders does it cover?
It works from guidelines you paste in rather than from a database. Funder requirements vary too much — by country, by type, by year — for anything else to be safe, and the prompts are explicitly instructed not to assume how a funder behaves.
Is this for charities or for academic research?
Both, with the weight on charity and community funding. Academic applicants will find the logic model, budget narrative, indirect cost and outcomes sections directly relevant; the case-for-support material assumes a lay reviewer rather than a peer panel.
We are very small. Is full cost recovery realistic for us?
That is the section most likely to change how you operate. The prompts help you state what the work genuinely costs, apportioned defensibly, and explain it in language funders accept. Some funders will still cap it — the prompts tell you what the cap permits and where the rest has to go.
How is it delivered?
You receive a PDF with all 140 prompts organized into 8 sections, delivered within 24 hours of purchase. No app or account required — copy a prompt, fill in the bracketed variables, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Can I use this for client work?
Yes. Your purchase includes a single-user commercial and personal license, so you can use every prompt in your own business or for client deliverables without restriction.
