The Financial Modelling Playbook
134 copy-paste AI prompts for founders and analysts — driver-based forecasts, cash runway, unit economics that hold, scenario and sensitivity work, and the model whose assumptions are visible.
Key Capabilities & Features:
- •The Model Primer: paste your business, revenue mechanics, cost base and cash position once — every prompt after it models your business rather than a template one
- •Driver-based throughout — a forecast built from leads, conversion, price and retention can be argued with; one built from a growth percentage cannot be, which is why nobody believes it
- •Cash modelled separately from profit, because profitable businesses run out of money and the model that conflates the two never shows it
- •A closing section on where models mislead, including the model built backwards from a number someone has already promised
- •Not investment advice, and not a valuation product — this is operating and planning modelling
- •134 prompts across 8 sections — drivers, not growth rates, revenue models, costs & headcount, cash & runway and more
- •Works with ChatGPT (GPT-5), Claude Opus 5 and Gemini 3.7 Flash — fill the bracket, paste, done
One-time payment • Lifetime access & future updates
What's Inside
8 modules134 promptsEvery module below is included in the single purchase.
- 1
Drivers, Not Growth Rates
20 promptsBuilding a forecast from things that actually cause revenue — leads, conversion, price, retention — rather than from a percentage applied to last year, which explains nothing.
- 2
Revenue Models
20 promptsSubscription, transactional, project and hybrid forecasts, cohorts rather than aggregates, expansion and contraction, and the pipeline that will not convert as assumed.
- 3
Costs & Headcount
18 promptsCosts that scale with revenue versus those that step, the true cost of a hire including everything around them, and the fixed cost you have been treating as variable.
- 4
Cash & Runway
20 promptsCash timing as distinct from profit, collection reality against payment terms, the month you actually run out, and the working capital swing that catches growing businesses.
- 5
Unit Economics
20 promptsContribution per unit or customer with every cost included, payback period, lifetime value calculated honestly, and the ratio that flatters you because a cost sits elsewhere.
- 6
Scenarios & Sensitivity
18 promptsThree cases built from different assumptions rather than one multiplied by 0.8, which driver moves the outcome most, and the variable worth spending money to reduce uncertainty on.
- 7
Presenting The Model
12 promptsThe one page an investor or board reads, defending a number under questioning, showing assumptions rather than burying them, and the question you will be asked first.
- 8
Where Models Mislead
6 promptsFalse precision, the spreadsheet that has become the plan, models built to reach a predetermined answer, and knowing when the honest output is a range and a shrug.

Architecture & System Overview
A forecast that starts from last year plus twenty per cent cannot be argued with, which sounds like a strength and is the reason nobody believes it. There is nothing in it to disagree about, and nothing to learn when it turns out wrong.
The Financial Modelling Playbook is a 134-prompt playbook covering drivers rather than growth rates, revenue models, costs and headcount, cash and runway, unit economics, scenarios and sensitivity, presenting the model, and where models mislead.
Start with the Model Primer — paste in your business, how revenue actually arrives, your cost base and your cash position — and every prompt after it models your business.
Everything is driver-based. Revenue is not a number that grows; it is leads multiplied by conversion multiplied by price, retained at some rate, and each of those is a thing you can test, influence and be wrong about specifically. A driver-based model tells you which assumption broke when reality diverges. A percentage-growth model tells you only that you were wrong.
Cash is modelled separately from profit throughout, because the two diverge exactly when it matters. A business growing quickly, paying staff monthly and collecting at sixty days can be profitable on every line and still miss payroll, and that is invisible in a model that treats a sale as cash.
The unit economics section is written to catch the flattering ratio — the one that looks healthy because a genuine cost has been left in a different part of the model. Support, onboarding, payment fees and the sales time that closed the customer all belong in the calculation, and leaving any of them out produces a payback period people will act on.
Note: this is operating and planning modelling. It is not investment advice, not a valuation product, and nothing in it should be used to decide whether to buy or sell a security. Where a question is genuinely about tax, accounting treatment or securities, the prompts direct you to a qualified professional rather than answering.

Lowest point in the month, not month end
Our month-end figures looked fine all year. Modelling the low point showed we were two days from a problem in three separate months and had never known.
Our payback was flattered by two missing costs
Onboarding time and payment fees were sitting elsewhere in the model. Adding them moved payback from seven months to eleven, which changed how fast we could afford to grow.
Drivers instead of a growth rate
Our board stopped arguing about whether 30% was realistic and started arguing about conversion rate, which is a question we can actually answer. Completely different meeting.
You still build the spreadsheet
It designs the model and explains what belongs where. The actual construction is yours, and I ended up buying the spreadsheet toolkit as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this investment advice?
No, and it will not become it. This is operating and planning modelling for a business you run. It is not a valuation product, contains nothing about buying or selling securities, and the prompts direct genuinely financial-advice questions to a qualified professional.
Do I need to be good with spreadsheets?
It designs the model — structure, drivers, what goes in each calculation — rather than writing the formulas. If building the workbook itself is the harder part for you, The Spreadsheet & Modelling Workflow covers that side and the two work well together.
Will it tell me my business is not viable?
If the unit economics say so, yes, and directly. The section on flattering ratios exists because a payback period that looks acceptable with a cost left out is worse than no calculation — people act on it.
Does it cover accounting or tax?
No. Accounting treatment and tax are jurisdiction-specific and regulated, and the prompts flag rather than answer. Bookkeeping practice management is a separate toolkit; this one is forward-looking modelling.
How is it delivered?
You receive a PDF with all 134 prompts organized into 8 sections, delivered within 24 hours of purchase. No app or account required — copy a prompt, fill in the bracketed variables, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Can I use this for client work?
Yes. Your purchase includes a single-user commercial and personal license, so you can use every prompt in your own business or for client deliverables without restriction.
